WOMEN'S PRISON
The task was to design a building of a new prison for women which will respond the current trends and will fulfill all strict operational and security measures. The building falls under the bigger facility of Ruzyne, outside of Prague. The prison with its face expresses closing from the outside world and creates its own world living its life. This concept is expressed in the project by the huge facade made of black sheet metal panels which seems to be impermeable at first sight, but in fact it is just a box for prison’s inner daily life. Inside it is divided in several thematic blocks with different functions. Those blocks are separated between themselves by green courtyards with trees in the middle. The other concept is to separate the prisoners and employees in the building and not mixing them which is always a big problem. All blocks are connected on each side by a main corridor – one for employees and the other for prisoners. This system clearly defines who uses which part of the building and where common areas are.
The object - compact and closed from the outside is in fact open, dynamic, spacious and shiny from the inside.
